On 12 February at 3.30 p.m., in Room 317 of the Department of Engineering of the University of Messina, Prof. Giuseppe Lanzo (Full Professor of Geotechnics at the Department of Structural and Geotechnical Engineering of Rome La Sapienza) will hold a seminar on the topic of the seismic performance of earthen dams.
The interest in this topic is linked to the strategic importance of these complex engineering works and their potential seismic vulnerability which, in light of the recent seismic classification of the Italian territory, requires in-depth studies to assess their safety and stability conditions during an earthquake and their functionality in the post-event phase.
The seminar, entitled ‘Liquefaction assessment of challenging soils in foundations of earth dams: three interesting Italian case studies’, after a general overview of the problem, will deal in detail with some case studies, very well documented from a geotechnical and seismic point of view, of great interest for the Italian territory
