The Department Council is a deliberative, steering and supervisory body and exercises all powers relating to the planning of the Department's activities.
Composition:
The Council is composed of all tenured professors, tenured and fixed-term researchers affiliated with the Department, the Administrative Secretary, two representatives of research fellows and doctoral students, student representatives equal to 15% of the entire college, and two representatives of the technical-administrative staff (Article 6 of the Regulations of the Department of Engineering).

Functions:
The Council is specifically responsible for:
a) approving funding requests;
b) approving its own budget proposal;
c) establishing general criteria for the performance of activities by technical and administrative staff, as well as for the use of spaces and equipment;
d) establishing general criteria for the use of the Department's financial resources;
e) approve participation in University research centers and service centers, as well as other scientific institutions;
f) approve the signing of contracts and agreements relating to the acquisition of goods and services, within the limits set by the Board of Directors;
g) approve the signing of contracts and agreements between the Department and public and private institutions and entities, relating to collaborative relationships for the performance of institutional activities;
h) submit, in accordance with the General Regulations, the resolutions referred to in point g) above for the favorable opinion of the Academic Senate and the approval of the Board of Directors;
i) approve the signing of contracts and agreements for services on behalf of third parties and distribute the resulting proceeds;
j) submit reasoned proposals to the Board of Directors regarding the establishment and elimination of degree programs;
k) submit reasoned proposals to the Academic Senate regarding the educational offerings, within its scope of competence;
l) formulate requests for tenured professorships and research positions, indicating the competitive areas;
m) approve, by an absolute majority of full professors, proposals for the appointment of full professors, as well as, by an absolute majority of full and associate professors, associate professors, and researchers;
n) annually assign teaching duties to the Department's professors and researchers;
o) propose the signing of contracts for teaching activities, including supplementary teaching;
p) propose the establishment of the federated and associative forms referred to in Article 5 of the Statute;
q) decide on requests from professors and researchers seeking exemption from teaching for study and research purposes, within the limits established by law, as well as authorization to undertake teaching duties at other university locations;
r) exercise any other function assigned to it by law, the Statute, and university regulations.
